Walter Moras (1856-1925) was an open-air painter who captured landscapes on the Baltic Sea and in the Brandenburg countryside around Berlin. Today he is best known as the "Spreewald painter". His painting style is realistic, characterised by a touch of melancholy, mostly simple and cultivated. Occasionally, impressionistic influences can be found in his atmospheric, poetic paintings. In later years, he created large-format autumn paintings that captivate with their warm colour tones. The same applies to his carefully composed winter landscapes, which show particularly subtle nuances in the snow. To mark the 100th anniversary of his death, the museum is showing a selection of his work. Works from the museum's collection are complemented by private loans.
