Attention to detail and passion for collecting

Building / plot situation

The exhibition is housed in a side wing of the Knabe family home. Mr Knabe built the numerous showcases himself and fitted them with lighting. The house is located directly on the village square in the Kolkwitz district of Kackrow, which is easy to reach from Glinzig. In the immediate vicinity, the well-known and popular restaurant "Koselmühle" invites visitors to stop for a bite to eat.

Characteristics

The exhibition takes the visitor into the world of children between 1880 and 1980. Dolls and teddy bears, toy shops and doll's carriages, games and children's books and many other things that make children's hearts beat faster are presented here. In the beginning, Christine Knabe collected her children's toys and her own toys. When her sons grew up and moved out, Mr and Mrs Knabe redesigned the rooms in the house for the exhibition. In the meantime, doll carriages are also on display in the neighbouring garage. Visitors can marvel at porcelain head and Schildkröt dolls. Even dolls from the Babelsberg film studio are exhibited here. A very special treasure are the many dolls' houses and merchants' shops, which Christine Knabe completes with great attention to detail and in keeping with the vintage.

Special exhibitions / accompanying offers

The basic exhibition remains in place throughout the year. At Christmas and Easter, the show is furnished with historical decorative elements to match the occasion. In addition, numerous pram models from the last 100 years, especially ZEKIWA prams, populate the Knabes' yard.
At Christmas and Easter, visitors can expect small festive offers.

Offers for children - With Kobi to the museum

Kobi - the little house ghost - is at home in the museum. He lives there in a slipper under the stove. At midnight, he eavesdrops on the old museum pieces when they tell stories about the past. He tells these exciting stories to the museum staff, who then pass them on to the children - stories from the old, old days.

Kobi offers:

Historical dolls and toys

Doll's carriages and doll's houses, kitchens, shops, dolls and toys - essentially from a period from around 1880 to 1960 - are on display in the exhibition. Schildkröt dolls, Käthe Kruse dolls, porcelain head and mass dolls, teddies and also mannequins are presented. However, visitors should bring time and quiet with them, because many things in the showcases can only be seen on a second tour.

The offer takes place indoors and is aimed at pre-school children and first graders.
