\nFolklore museum with urban history collection<\/p>\n

Building\/property situation<\/h3>\n

The house Am Markt 10 was built in a late Baroque style as a plaster building in 1805. Today it is a listed building. The building served as an inn and residential house. After extensive renovation, the building complex has been open to the public since 1995, and in 2000 the upper floor became home to the \"Sorbian Weaving Room\" collection.<\/p>\n

Characteristics<\/h3>\n

The collection comprises about 3,000 objects and 3,200 Easter eggs from over 50 countries, and is the result of decades of collecting and research work by the museum's founder, Dr Lotar Balke (\u2020 2.10.2008).<\/p>\n

The exhibition areas show historical furniture and furnishings as well as evidence of the culture and way of life as well as the customs of the peasant and petty bourgeois classes. Regional and national Sorbian traditional costumes and parts of traditional costumes as well as other textiles are presented. The Easter egg collection with its focus on local Sorbian folk art traditions is represented in the permanent exhibition. However, it can only be viewed in all its splendour during the Easter season.<\/p>\n

The history of the town with a focus on urban crafts and the Drebkau glass industry are further exhibition topics. A special highlight is the area \"From flax to canvas\", especially as all the equipment on display is in full working order.<\/p>\n

Special exhibitions\/ accompanying offers<\/a><\/h3>\n

Special exhibitions are offered twice a year, as well as the annual Easter presentation of the collection of Dr. Lotar Balke (\u2020 2.10.2008) with more than 3,200 eggs from all over the world. It always takes place 4 weeks before Easter until 2 weeks after Easter. At the Drebkauer Easter Egg Market, organised by the museum's Friends, children and adults can marvel at traditional egg decorating, demonstrated by folk artists from the region. Appointments for egg painting are available by appointment during the Easter season. In addition to other cultural offerings, the annual Museum Night is traditionally held.<\/p>\n

Offers for children - With Kobi to the museum<\/a><\/h3>\n

Kobi - the little house ghost - is at home in the museum. He lives there in a slipper under the stove. At midnight, he eavesdrops on the old museum pieces when they tell stories about the past. He tells these exciting stories to the museum staff, who then pass them on to the children - stories from the old, old days.<\/p>\n

Anyone who would like to learn the traditional decorating of Easter eggs by the Sorbs\/Wends is invited to a taster course for beginners in two Sorbian techniques. A visit to the museum is part of the project day.<\/p>\n

Anticipation, the most beautiful joy, joy in Advent...Every year at Advent time, the Sorbian Weaving House Drebkau offers various Christmas handicrafts for different age groups. A very personal gift - self-made Advent decorations. A guided tour of the museum is part of the project.<\/p>\n
