Here in Sabrodt in the house of Matthes Kujasch, language, customs and egg decorating were cultivated. Today, his granddaughter, Dorothea Tschöke, continues these traditions.

Characteristics

The Sabrodt Easter Egg Museum offers an exhibition all about eggs. On display are Easter eggs from all over the world collected by members of the "Lausitzer Heimatverein e.V." since 1971, as well as winning collections from the Sorbian "Easter Egg Competition Bautzen". Visitors learn interesting facts about customs at different times of the year and games with eggs. In addition to eggs in a wide variety of techniques and made of different materials, the exhibition also presents egg cups, egg warmers, egg containers, egg bringers, egg layers, egg cutters and many other egg objects. The museum also houses the largest blueprint model of Brandenburg and Saxony.
The film "When Jan and Lenka get married", shot in Sabrodt in 1955, shows the Sorbian wedding. Visitors can watch this and other films on Sorbian/Wendish customs, egg customs of the world and the sights of Lusatia.
A Franconian egg fountain has been reconstructed and can be visited in the outdoor facilities.

Special exhibitions / accompanying offers

The Sorbian/Wendish egg decorating techniques can not only be viewed in the museum, but also learned in creative courses. In the egg painting workshop, visitors have the opportunity to take part in an internal museum competition with their self-designed works of art. Particularly unusual eggs can also be made, e.g. a landscape in an egg.
Every year, the prize-winning Easter eggs from the Sorbian "Easter Egg Competition Bautzen" are on display.
A travelling exhibition on blueprinting explains the techniques of blueprinting and tells the differences between blueprinting with models, industrial printing and handmade screen printing.

Offers for children - With Kobi to the museum

Kobi - the little house ghost - is at home in the museum.
