"There was nothing..." - Shopping in the GDR

Can you still remember the smell of Rondo coffee or the taste of sherbet powder on your tongue? Go "shopping" once again in the Konsum and immerse yourself in the world of goods in the GDR. There was one in almost every village. A small, usually simple sales outlet where you could get the goods you needed for daily use. At least that's how it was supposed to be. But in the planned economy, you had to reckon with "bottlenecks" and "queuing" every now and then. Often, the only way to get the goods you wanted was through "connections". The special exhibition looks back on 40 years of consumer history in the GDR. In addition to original products, historical photographs of sales outlets, factories, production plants and restaurants from the archives of the Association of German Consumer Cooperatives are on display.
