Living local history in the original village centre - old mining in the Muskau folds

Building / plot situation

The local history research group presents its exhibits in two buildings. On the one hand, the exhibition areas of school history and industrial history await their guests in the middle of the village green near the church in the building and on the grounds of the historic school, a stately clinker brick building from the 19th century. On the other hand, the exhibition area on agriculture is housed in the old Hayasche restaurant in Muskauer Straße.

Characteristics

The aim of the exhibition is to trace the development of the village from a Sorbian/Wendish village to an industrial community. In particular, the "local landscape" is viewed from a glacial-geological perspective (the area of the "Muskauer Faltenbogen"). This is expressed in presentations on geology, geomorphology and the changes in the landscape caused by man; and here the focus is on the history of lignite mining (old mining) at the "Conrad" mine. Recently, the presentation was expanded with documentation on the fighting in the village and the region during the Second World War and its results.

Special exhibitions / accompanying offers

The presentation is expanded at intervals by special exhibitions.

  • Outside opening hours, special guided tours on mining history and the church are available, also for school classes.
  • Guided bicycle excursions through the surrounding area, starting at the local history museum and continuing with the topics of mining history, landscape, history and early history (burial mounds in the field).
  • Actions on the "Open Monument Day
