Customs under the reed roof - Spreewald history at the harbour

Building / plot situation

The "Heimatstube Burg" is housed in a building at the Spreehafen, which is part of a three-sided farmhouse (with draw well, farm building and barn with gallery) redesigned according to historical borrowings. The house is a converted historical farmhouse in log construction with a typical three-sided layout. It comes from the district of Burg - Kauper and was inhabited until about 1990.

Characteristics

The exhibition presents insights into the history and present of the village of Burg and the lives of the Sorbian/Wendish farmers in Burg (Spreewald) and the surrounding area or the Spreewald in the 18th to the 21st century. One focus is the presentation of the elaborate traditional costumes of Burg, the presentation of traditional crafts and the diverse customs, such as the painting of Sorbian Easter eggs in wax reserve and bossing techniques, as well as discussion groups on the topic of "Legendary figures and their meaning". Another thematic focus is presented in the permanent exhibition "History and Stories of the Spreewald Railway".

Special exhibitions / accompanying offers

Two special exhibitions are held each year. As a rule, these are in-house productions for which extensive object research is carried out with the corresponding loan traffic. The themes range from seasonal highlights to local crafts and customs.

  • The openings of the special exhibitions run with a small cultural programme.
  • Once a year in September, the Heimatstubenfest takes place in the Drei-Seiten-Hof under the motto "Traditional costumes, dance and traditions".

Additional offers by arrangement are available on the following topics:

  • "Getting to know legendary figures and their meaning" Knowledge about the language, culture and way of life of the Sorbs/Wends is imparted with the possibility of dressing up.
  • Show demonstration "Sorbian Easter egg painting in wax reserve and bossing technique".
  • A "Little Treasure Hunt" and a children's quiz in the local history room are also possible
  • Thematic guided tours in which one aspect of the exhibition is explored in detail (e.g. Easter customs, flax processing, traditional costume and clothing).

Offers for children - With Kobi to the museum

Kobi - the little house ghost - is at home in the museum. He lives there in a slipper under the stove. At midnight, he eavesdrops on the old museum pieces when they tell stories about the past. He tells these exciting stories to the museum staff, who then pass them on to the children - stories from the old, old days.

Kobi offers:

It is a regional hike from Vetschau via Raddusch, Lehde, Straupitz, Cottbus, Briesen to Burg. With knowledge, you can get ahead faster in the game. In addition, there is a lot of interesting information about our region.

Unusual game rules and special accessories make the game varied. For example, you can choose between a mathematical, a sporty and a healthy game variant.
