16 May 2021 is International Museum Day!
Category : Current
International Museum Day is proclaimed annually by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and will take place for the 44th time in 2021. The aim of the day of action is to draw attention to the thematic diversity of the more than 6,500 museums in Germany as well as museums worldwide. With their broad spectrum, diverse offerings and innovative ideas, museums make a great contribution to our cultural and social life. As visitors, you are cordially invited to discover the treasures preserved in the museums and to be inspired by the passionate commitment of the museum staff.
Each year, the action day has a different focus, which is proclaimed by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and thus highlights the different topics of museum work, takes up current issues and refers to the thematic diversity of our rich museum landscape. In 2021 the focus is Museums inspire the future.
In Germany, International Museum Day is coordinated by the German Museums Association (Deutscher Museumsbund e. V.) and implemented in close cooperation with the museum associations and offices of the federal states, ICOM Germany and the local museums. The action day is decisively supported by the foundations and institutions of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe.
The patronage for Museum Day is assumed by the President of the Federal Council.
