Pop-up books are objects that have a special effect on the viewer due to their special way of presentation. Butterflies and elephants, Noah's Ark, a giant whale and even an entire circus tent - as soon as the book covers open, the scenery comes to life. The three-dimensional backdrops made of colourful paper that rise up between the pages of the book form three-dimensional images in which people and animals rise up before lying down again as the pages are turned. The "Pop-up Nature" exhibition takes us back to the visual world of the 1960s to 1980s, when pop-up books had their heyday. The exhibition presents a variety of animal illustrations from classic fairy tales such as "The Frog Prince", "Puss in Boots" and "The Seven Little Goats" as well as books for young people. Berlin exhibition organisers Thomas Gubig and Sebastian Köpcke provide an insight into their extensive private collection and introduce the artists behind the three-dimensional stories.
