Easter market at the district administration
Category : Current
On 27 February 2023, spring was welcomed and the Easter season ushered in with a very special Easter market in Forst (Lausitz). The museums of the Lusatian Museum Land working group and the Sorbian/Wendish institutions set up various stands for one day in the Great Hall of the district hall in Heinrich-Heine-Straße. They presented themselves with Easter jewellery, handicrafts, advertising material and, of course, decorated Easter eggs. You could admire the Sorbian/Wendish art of Easter egg painting and the techniques of egg engraving. Women in Sorbian/Wendish traditional costumes were a special eye-catcher.
In his opening speech, District Administrator Harald Altekrüger welcomed the representatives of the museum institutions and invited the employees of the district administration to look around and take advantage of the hands-on activities. Ms Zenker gave an informative talk on old, often little-known, Sorbian/Wendish customs during Holy Week and the Easter holidays.
The event was musically framed by Gerhard Paucker and Gerald Schön, who played bagpipes and shepherd's flute. The Easter market was also the kick-off event for the 30th anniversary that the district is celebrating this year.
