An unforgettable evening of history and flavour in Peitz
Category : Current
Long planned, I had the special opportunity to take part in a culinary tour of the town of Peitz, and it was an experience that I will certainly remember for a long time to come. Accompanied by my partner and around 20 other interested guests, we immersed ourselves in a fascinating journey through the town's eventful history, which was combined with culinary delights in a unique way.
Right from the start of the tour, I was impressed by the attention to detail with which the event was organised. The first stop took us to the historic Zeugschmiede, where we were welcomed by gunner Ackermann and landlord Kruse. The pea soup on offer was not only a treat for the palate, but also a wonderful way to set the mood for the hours ahead. The meal was accompanied by lively anecdotes about the history of Peitz Fortress, which allowed us to immerse ourselves in times gone by.
A short walk through the small, idyllic rose garden of Peitz then took us to the "cellar", the former kitchen of the Peitz fortress tower, the oldest building in the town. Here, contemplative music created a relaxed atmosphere, while Sergeant Malcherowitz mesmerised us with interesting stories about the town's impressive fortress history. Another highlight of the evening awaited us in the rustic Malzhaus bastion. With a hearty glass of wine in hand, we experienced the history of this impressive building at first hand. The informative narration by Musketeer Jupe made this stop particularly entertaining. I literally felt transported back to the time when Peitz played an important role as a fortress town and was impressed by the work that the association has done to preserve the building. The tour of the town ended with a visit to the lovingly restored clubhouse of the Peitz Historical Society, the "Museum am Pulverturm". The building is not only an architectural gem, but also houses a fascinating museum that provides a deep insight into the history of the town and fortress of Peitz. We ended the evening in a cosy atmosphere with rustic food and shared our impressions with other participants.
I was particularly impressed by the commitment of the volunteer members of the Historical Society, who have been keeping the history of the region alive for more than 25 years and offering the residents of Peitz and visitors valuable leisure activities. My special thanks go to the cannoneer Uwe Ackermann, the musketeer Torsten Jupe and the sergeant Christoph Malcherowitz, who guided us through the evening with a great deal of passion and knowledge.
This combination of historical facts, culinary delights and the warm atmosphere made the evening an unforgettable experience. Anyone who has the opportunity to take part in such a guided tour should make the most of it - not only will you take home many wonderful memories, but also a new understanding of the fascinating history of Peitz.
