Christmas and Winter Exhibition "Tin Railway Dreams" Model railways in the Forst Textile Museum
Category : Current
In the period from about 1938, the round trip of the quite rare railway models in S gauge (22.5 mm) begins in the textile museum in the rose town of Forst (Lausitz). The complete range of the former model railway production from Stadtilm in Thuringia is the basis for this extensive exhibition. Here you will find, among other things, railway models from the pre-series, period around 1956 and trade fair models that were never officially produced. These model railways were produced in Stadtilm from 1956 to 1964. In addition, some Stadtilmer gauge 0 models from the time around 1950 are also shown.
The many functioning self-built locomotives and wagons are certainly unique. None of these models were made from model kits, but exclusively from plastic sheets that come from the DIY store. There will be 25 self-built locomotives on display and in operation during the driving days.
As early as 1948, the Nuremberg company Bub also produced sheet metal models in S gauge. Numerous model railways and accessories from this production are also on display. In addition, museum visitors can marvel at 70-year-old model railways from the American Flyer company in the USA, as well as current S-Helper model railways from overseas.
Also on display will be model railways from the Czech companies Lastra and Igra, a Russian starter set, S-gauge models from Polish production, railways from China, Japan and France. Two 1:64 scale S gauge monorails are also part of the repertoire.
The currently largest mobile model railway layout in S gauge in Germany with a length of 16 m and two other layouts in this gauge are also among the exhibits. Here, the flair of model railways in the 1950s becomes very visible. One layout can be controlled by the exhibition visitors themselves at any time.
