Felting in the Guben City and Industry Museum

With wool felt, special felting needles, cookie cutters (possibly self-made cardboard shapes), bubble wrap and polystyrene, the pupils can make a wide variety of felt figures under supervision. The finished figures are also suitable for further processing as key rings, Christmas and/or Easter decorations and for the decorative embellishment of hats. The students should already have some experience with needles.

"How a hat is made" - film screening on the making of a hat in the Guben City and Industry Museum

As part of a visit to the museum, children and young people are shown a film (DVD) about the production of hats in the former VEB Hutwerke Guben. The film complements the exhibition by illustrating the hard work involved in hat production (film duration approx. 20 minutes).

During a dice game with legendary figures as game pieces, our "young" guests learn a lot of interesting facts about the legendary figures. It is a regional hike from Vetschau via Raddusch, Lehde, Straupitz, Cottbus, Briesen to Burg. With knowledge, you can get ahead faster in the game. In addition, there is a lot of interesting information about our region.

Unusual game rules and special accessories make the game varied. For example, you can choose between a mathematical, a sporty and a healthy game variant.

Legendary figures of the Spreewald in the Burg local history museum

1. Teil: Kurze allgemeine Führung mit Informationen zum Dorf Burg (Spreewald), zur niedersorbischen/wendischen Sprache und zu den niedersorbischen/wendischen Trachten.

Part 2: Some children are transformed into legendary figures with costumes. With the help of these, they learn interesting facts about the living conditions of our ancestors, whereby the children's knowledge is included but not required. For example, the importance of water in general, the water conditions in the Spreewald and the Lower Sorbian/Wendish language are discussed.

Part 3: Depending on the children's stamina and interest, two to three more sagas are read aloud and briefly discussed.

Cloth and man-made fibres at the "Gubener Tuche und Chemiefasern e.V." (Guben Cloth and Man-Made Fibres Association)

The project participants visit the exhibitions on the "History of the former chemical fibre factory" and "History of the Guben clothiers". A film about the history of Guben is shown and the pupils can prove their knowledge in a quiz in both exhibitions. There will be an award for the best. If desired, a grilled sausage and a drink will be served at a cost of €2.00.

From grain to flour in the "Sprucker Mühle" Guben

In the historic water mill of the local history museum "Sprucker Mühle", the grinding of grain (corn) into flour is explained and demonstrated. After the guided tour, the pupils have the opportunity to grind grains into meal themselves on an old grating mill in historical clothing (manual work).
