Fossils up close and personal - a special kind of leap back in time to the Eemian Warm Period in the open-air museum "Zeitsprung" Klinge

The open-air museum shows a picture-book sequence of layers from the last two ice ages and the intervening Eemian warm period in a very special way. Many fossil animal and plant finds have made this area famous since 1891. You can experience history at first hand in the walk-through archaeological monument, along the circular path, on the adventure trail and in the dome building, and transport yourself back to the Eemian warm period about 128,000-115,000 years ago. Many information boards can be explored, and in the "Fossilium" - our excavation workshop - fossils can be searched for under guidance. Just like real geologists do, all the finds are pasted, identified and labelled on an excavation report.

A guided tour of the open-air museum is followed by work in the "Fossilium". Depending on the size of the class, work can be done in two to three groups, see "Supplementary offers" (duration approx. 2 hrs).

Aluminium show casting in the foundry of the Peitz ironworks

Aluminium show casting with traditional "hand moulding" is carried out in the historic blast furnace hall of the Ironworks and Fisheries Museum. Our guests receive expert explanations from a skilled moulder and caster during the demonstration.

Guided tour of the Peitz Ironworks and Fisheries Museum

The historic Peitz ironworks, located directly on the Peitz ponds, is one of the most important technical monument sites in Brandenburg. The blast furnace and foundry hall from 1810 houses a partially functioning foundry plant from the first half of the 19th century.

During the tour, visitors learn a lot of interesting facts about the foundry itself, the history of the factory and the region. They also receive interesting information about fishing.

Industrial history between coal and glass in the Welzow local history museum

With the Heimatstube, the Heimatverein Welzow e. V. aims to document the history of the town of Welzow through museum exhibits on various topics. The main focus of the exhibition is on the coal and glass industries, the history of schools and associations.

The knowledge about the cultivation and use of herbs is thousands of years old. It is fun to sniff the herbs, to identify them or to snack on them. But be careful! Not all of them are edible and need to be refined. Afterwards, you can enjoy a snack with homemade butter and herbal salt. A guided tour of the herb garden with colleagues from the Turmapotheke Spremberg is available on request.

Castle Play in the Lower Lusatian Heath Museum Spremberg

The castle game is a search and orientation game of the museum. Dressed up in medieval costumes, we go in search of previously photographed exhibits. If all of them are found, including an old key, then we can use it to open the treasure chest. There is brief information about the objects found. In this way, all areas of the house are illuminated and the purpose of a museum is explained.

Different tasks have to be solved according to the age of the participants.

We will compare a day as experienced by the great-grandparents with today. There will be insights into the food storage of that time, the nutrition, procurement and preservation.

A short film shows historical crafts. History thus becomes an exciting experience.
Afterwards, we "examine" various pieces of equipment and try out some of them.

Exhibition about Johann Friedrich Fritze in the Protestant Church Kolkwitz

The exhibition pays tribute to the life and work of the Kolkwitz pastor, writer and demographer Johann Friedrich Fritze (20.09.1747 - 15.01.1819) in text, images and sound. He was the first to translate the Old Testament into Lower Sorbian and had it printed largely at his own expense. The exhibition is complemented by portraits of important contemporaries. To the left of the entrance are the graves of Pastor Fritzes and his daughter-in-law Eleonore Auguste, née Elsasser. The original gravestone of Pastor Fritze in the Wendish language is in the exhibition room. In the church, two wooden panels under the right gallery provide information about the history of the Niedersorben / Wends.
